Bris take 2….
September 18, 2005No calm down.
It was a different baby..whew…
Gidon Shoshan, a Ramat Beit Shemesher had a boy so the bris was yesterday.
Just a quick plug for Daf Yomi. It was great having the daf yomi which spoke about melachos you can be “over” for a bris on shabbos… and here we were at a shabbos bris.
Awesome!
Its lehavdil, when a seinfeld moment comes up and you quote the episode… and the lines..etc.
Hopefully I’ll have more “Daf yomi” moments in the future..
WE had a Staten Islander over for shabbos, Jessy Slater who is in Ohr Yerushalayim this year in Yeshiva.
It was great having him over. We enjoyed his company and the kids had a great time with him. Moshe took no prisoners as he beat Jessy in foosball 10-5. Its exciting and refreshing when you speak to a boy getting his first taste of Beis Medrash.
I think jessy is in the “hmmm, going to ben yehuda is getting tired… let me see what this learning is all about” stage. Which usually comes later, so I think he’s ahead of schedule. As I was talking to him about learning and the importance of learning and the geshmak of it…I thought I was getting somewhere so I asked him if he wanted to go with me to the Daf Yomi.
“Nah, I think I’ll sleep”
SO much for my JEP / NCSY advisor past..
We davened in 2 places shabbos morning.
After getting to shul for the bris and being squished in the back due to a lack of space. THe light and A/C went off in the back room where we were davening.
NO place
NO light
No A/C.
No me.
We left and went to another shul.
Before mincha we heard Rabbi Mordechai Willig, from Riverdale, NY who spoke at the shul on Unity and Diversity and the importance of people not to lift up their rabbis by putting down others. He also said we should not be too concerned about other peoples little details and customs. WE are 12 shevatim but we all face h-shem. We all have different ways to be close to h-shem and we all have our own customs.
After the speech there was a huge fight over the guy getting an aliya who wasn’t wearing socks… oh I forgot that was in the green room..
Kidding… no fighting…sheesh rough crowd..
At shalosh seudos I spoke to Rabbi Michael Citron, a rebbi at Lev Hatorah where my cousin goes to yeshiva. I was trying to get a good quote so I could put it on this blog. After getting a weird look, he said.. well, its very early but I see he’s a REALLY sweet boy. (I’ll try to press him and harass him as the year goes on, Faigie.)
Last night was a melave malka in Beit Shemesh for the parents of the rappaport school to meet the principal.
Now I can see why the kids are spacing out in class and are not understanding the lessons…
I understood maybe 50% of the speech. I was trying to transalate some of it to dovid.
I looked over and Saw Penina was looking like she understood things… and then sara Baila, Dovid’s wife was sleeping…ZZZzzzzz…
In the car on the way back home, we all decided to give the kids more slack.
Its NOt easy hearing Hebrew for an hour and trying to understand everything…. you miss one one two sentences..and you don’t get the gist of the paragragh..
At the melava malka I saw a former SI’er, Noam Novick who I met last year.
He sends regards to Korn and Yossi Kaplan.
Well, I gotta run…
If you are watching the Jets game and you have a web camera please DO NOT call me…
oy!
Feh!
Even Councilman Jim Oddo wishes he was here so he doesn’t have to witness this…
Is aliya in the plans?
Stay tuned…
