Remember…

May 1, 2006

Well, its almost rememberence day…. yom hazikoron… and then its Independence day.

I’ve given it alot of thought on our role and our stance on the government. Living in Israel and being not overly zionist doesn’t have to be a contridiction. I’ve never been to an Israeli Day PArade and I can’t find anyone that is totally happy with the Israeli government. The regime has a long way to go to become Orthodox / Dati. Its also the wrong approach to totally say that its against everything Jewish, my opinion. There are good and bad things. Hopefully with the Olim we can slowly make Israel a place that is a Jewish state. Not just a state of Jews. You have no idea how dissapointing it is to see the goverment go against Torah values. One of the most dissapointing events of my life was after spending hours at the Kotel davening and crying for our brothers and sisters not to get evicted from Gush Katif.. the government went ahead and literally shattered peoples lifes forever. People that used to GIVE to poor people, now are forced to be on the receiving end. There are many other examples of the left’s rulings that could literally make you pull your hair out. But we as Jews have to have hakoras Hatov and we have pride in having Eretz Yisroel. Over 22,000 men and women have given their lives so we can have places to go visit and daven and live. They have protected the holy sites where our tanaim lived. Despite how you feel about the lefties in the government and the chilonim. We owe them our thanks. Israel isn’t just about visiting for holidays and going to hotels. Its a place with alot of problems: Culture wars, Poverty, terrorism, high taxes and despite all that its still the best place to live. Its our home. No matter what you feel about politics, you have to support it bec. its out home. No matter what your sibling does or what your cousin does you will always love him or her. Same thing. Its ours. Its yours. Even if your house has a leak or a dirty kitchen.. you still love your house. same thing. We also have a place to call home. Whether you live in brooklyn, 5 towns, NJ….wherever… Israel is our Home. Without the gov’t and soldiers we wouldn’t have a home to go to. So while there are anti torah ideals …. there is a element of thank you and gratitude that I have and I am proud to be an Israeli citizen. You can criticize, show gratitude and love at the same time.

I’m out.
